The ‘Rocky Rating’ unveiled
I recently got a message from one of my readers that went like this:
"I received the book just before the holiday. We went camping that weekend and when I wasn't playing cornhole (or fishing) I was reading about cornhole (or fishing). Very informative, insightful and funny. Thanks again. Oh, and BTW, my 'Rocky Rating' is 1, 2, 4, 3, 6, 5."
In my book, “
Cornhole: Throwing Bags in a Hole,” I use the final fight of Rocky III as an analogy for a section called “Surviving” in the “Strategery” chapter. Born from that chapter was a brief aside where I announced my rankings of the Rocky movies. The 'Rocky Rating' is defined as personally ranking the six Rocky movies from best to worst, one being your favorite. The more I thought about the ranking and the more I discussed the ranking with readers, I realized there is a bit more to the ranking than numbers. If you break down a man’s 'Rocky Rating' therapeutically I argue you can deduce the very psychological nature of every man. And for the man who has not watched the Rocky movies and has no basis for a rating, well, I say, I know all I need to know to evaluate his manhood. For the 99% of us remaining (that have seen at least four Rocky movies), I provide this insight into your inner being and Rocky Balboa.
Here is how the 'Rocky Rating' works. After you rank the six Rocky movies from best to worst, read the analysis below. You will find that you share many traits described in your favorite movie’s "The Man" analysis, and a few more in your second and third highest ranked movies. By the time you reach your fourth ranking, you will find that the man described in the "The Man" analysis defines your annoying arch nemesis.
